Rules
Self-Supported Principles
1
Complete self-sufficiency. Everything you need, you either carry or resupply along the way using publicly available services (supermarkets, cafes, hotels, repair shops). Assistance from support vehicles, friends or family is not permitted. Pre-booking accommodation is not permitted.
No Shortcuts
2
Participants must follow the prescribed route in its entirety. Shortcuts are not permitted and will be penalised. If you leave the route, for resupply, rest, or any other reason, you must return to the exact point where you left it and continue from there. In the event of road closures or interruptions, it is your responsibility to find an alternative bypass and rejoin the official route.
No Drafting
3
Drafting and group riding is not permitted.
Local laws and traffic regulations
4
Participants ride on public roads and move through public spaces across multiple countries. Each rider is personally responsible for knowing, observing, and complying with all applicable local laws and traffic regulations at all times.
Respect and Responsibility
5
Participants are expected to treat nature, other people, and themselves with respect at all times. Respect the landscapes, wildlife, and local communities you pass through, and leave everything as you found it. Ride responsibly around other riders, vehicles, and pedestrians. Know your limits and avoid unnecessary risks. If you encounter a rider who is injured or in danger, stop and help.
Mandatory Equipment
6
All participants must carry the following items throughout the event: a valid ID card or passport, a helmet, front and rear lights, a device with GPS navigation and an emergency blanket.
Tracking
7
Participants must carry the provided GPS tracker at all times. It is your responsibility to keep it functional and sufficiently charged throughout the entire race. This is how dust&distance and the public follow the event live. Rankings are based on total elapsed time from start to finish, including all stops.
Insurance
8
All participants must hold valid liability, accident, health, and death insurance for the entire duration of the event, covering emergency rescue, medical expenses, and repatriation.
Timing
9
The event is not a closed-road challenge. Each rider is responsible for managing their own pace, rest periods and route strategy. Timing starts at the official start time and ends when the rider reaches the designated finish location and has completed all required checkpoints or tracking requirements.
The official finish time is based on the event’s tracking and/or timing system. Riders must follow the published route and comply with all traffic laws at all times. Any significant deviation from the route, missed checkpoint or breach of the rules may result in a time penalty or disqualification.
Finish
10
To be listed as an official finisher, riders must reach the finish within the published time limit and in accordance with the event rules. The organizer reserves the right to adjust timing procedures in case of technical issues, safety concerns or exceptional circumstances.
After finishing, riders are required to return the tracking device to the organizer at the designated return point. The tracking device deposit will only be refunded after the device has been returned complete, undamaged and in working condition.
